First things first- if you enjoyed this book, or read it at all, you must watch the movie The Founder. It explains a huge missing piece of the story. It also explains Kroc’s incessant complaining about the McDonald brothers.

This is a super interesting story and a well written book. Kroc is a fascinating figure - an extraordinary businessman who truly changed America and the restaurant business forever. This was a good read and did give a lot of insight on how Kroc made McDonald’s what it is today. It was written in 1977, but that makes no difference in the story until the afterword.

A fascinating look at the "golden arches" empire from the lens of its creator. This book takes you from Ray Kroc's humble beginnings as a paper cup salesman to his later years of taking a small restaurant from California owned by the McDonald brothers to an American (world, now) household name. A very interesting read. I stop and think of all the hard work, luck and right decisions made by Kroc and his team whenever I see a McDonald's.

I’m fascinated by people that make huge impacts on people. I doubt that anyone has not been impacted by Ray Kroc and what McDonald’s has done for the world- good and bad.

The drive and tenacity that Ray had was remarkable.

Small parts of the booked drug along but most of the book was intriguing and I was able to take away something throughout the book.

Really interesting book. Although I truly feel Ray Kroc would be shamed by some of the food practices used today by McDonald's, it was really great to read about the beginnings of the franchise and what the enterprise was built on. Hard work. Quality. Customer Service and Loyalty.
Great story telling from times long past. But it's comforting to know that some of the great ideas Kroc and his Operators had still shine on. And of course his philanthropic efforts.

Good book from Ray’s perspective on McDonald’s. Flows well and the writing is clear. Definitely a different opinion presented here than the popular movie where he is the villain. I’m sure the truth lies in between.

Catches a lot of the broad strokes. I would’ve liked a little more detail at some of the stuff but I’m kind of a nerd about businesses, so I guess that’s more preference then general statement on book quality.

A lot of admiration for Ray and just how hard it is to do what he did. It’s a heck of a lot easier to look back and see how all of the dots connect then it is to charge forth and connect them as you go. I think the message here that is really driven home, is that if you just keep going long enough, you can find the things that work. Staying in the game and keeping moving forward seems to be what Ray thinks his recipe for success is. There definitely is a level of luck at play, and no one grows a business alone, but I admire the hard work described within in the honesty that Ray has in that regard.

Last chapters are basically an ego trip. Ray is taking a victory lap and slinging mud at people he doesn’t like. But it is an interesting insight into the type of person he is in its own regard. ‘Sometimes the best revenge is shit talking people in your memoir’ -Ray maybe.

Amazing book. Reads like a fast paced, witty biography. Interesting, short and a roller coaster ride from the start.

I read this book mostly because my bf works for McDonald's and I thought maybe I would get some insight on how McDonald's got it start.
I had seen the movie and knew generally that he stole McDonald's from the brothers. I went into it a little bias but I was really hopeful it would some how turn me around to seeing his point of view.
I honestly found him a annoying the way he told his story.
Ray covers everything from his early career with paper cups, several marriages, buying a baseball team and his constant struggle with getting McDonald's for himself. He came off a little self centered and hypocritical...he could forgive one person but not another.

** Books 55 - 2021 **

3,7 of 5 stars!

I remembered my boss recommended "THE FOUNDER" movie on May 1st, 2021 since it is a great movie about an inspiration for being a next leader. When my boss said this movie based on Mcdonalds one of biggest fast food-chain restaurant in US suddenly i remembered this movie based on this books. So thats why i read this books first and maybe later i will see the movie tho (Valid no debate iam reading book team first than watch movie LOL)

And oh wow when i read this books i can feel Mr Ray Kroc determination, resilience and consistency for trying his best for expanding Mcdonalds restaurant. Now you can see how big Mcdonalds is it around the world. This books also shared his views about his business judgement, how picked the great people into the right place, also his personal lives (i shocked when he loves another woman when he already married too :O).

This books really an eye-opener for us for being never give up and try your best into your business. This pieces is really an inspiring one and i can proud of Mcdonalds can be success like nowadays woww.. :O

Thankyou Hoopla!
