Book 3 of Crescent City was EVERYTHING I hoped it would be From the beginning of the book all the way to the last chapter. It had you on the edge of your seat. This book has me wanting to obtain all of the information it was throwing at you.

This book has a great conclusion to the events that started with Crescent City 1 & 2. You get to meet a few new characters and get even more in depth with the characters we already know and love.

I don't want to give any spoilers but I highly recommend reading The ACOTAR series before Crescent City. You learn some pieces of information in that series, specifically book 5, that gives you some background in the world building in Crescent City. 3. If you don't read ACOTAR you'll definitely be missing information, but you could probably get by with the limited knowledge.

It’s crazy how when reading the first book I was struggling to understand literally everything l: the world, the species, powers, heck just everyone’s names but by this book I read it so easily no rereading or googling peoples names required. I loved this book loved seeing more of Nesta the duo I didn’t know I needed her and Bryce and omg the revealing of who Lydia is related to??? I did not see that coming! I’m very glad this is not the end of the series because I want more!

Fortunately, CC #3 is way more action packed than CC #2. There are some parts that drag on a little but overall the story is pretty fast paced.

This book would make an excellent ending to the CC universe. The biggest of the bad guys have been taken care of, the main plot point is finished, there really isn't much else to go on. But I know SJM can't help but beat a dead horse and suck the joy and integrity out of any series she does, so I fully expect more to come in the series, likely from the POV of a much less interesting couple, with lukewarm romance and a watered down plot. Ya know, like the Cassian/Nesta book.

I've said it before: SJM is a clumsy writer, unworthy of the downright worship people throw at her. She can't help but stray from her characterisation, until the entire cast all speak and act the same. I wish she'd give it a rest with the Stephanie Meyer-est mate thing, and instead focus on developing her cast more and fleshing out plot ideas.

The backbone of CC is good, that's the thing. The world building is excellent. The plot points aren't even terrible. But instead of focusing on how to develop all that and truly make it shine, she focuses instead on unrealistic sex scenes (magic aside, no woman comes that fast from a penis alone, sorry), and which main character to kill off and then revive at the last minute.

Seriously, if you know her tricks, then very little in these novels will surprise you, because she does the same shit over and over and over. Eventually you stop worrying about the fates of the main cast, because you know she's going to heal them and imbue them with insanely OP magical powers. Lady needs to take a writing class and really practice.

She's not a bad writer, just a clumsy and downright lazy one. Someone needs to tell her that making it up as you go along only works in action movies and shouldn't be applied to writing novels.

I really enjoyed it! I was expecting it to be awful after seeing reviews online. However, this book tied all three SJM worlds together and led to wildly interesting theories. The inclusion of acotar characters had potential to be cheesy but I think it’s super important what view we got of those characters and which ones were showcased. Were there times where I needed Bryce to chill out cause it’s been A WEEK? Yes. Was she overly mean to Hunt at times? Yes. However, there’s a lot of criticism in the book when we still have future books to wrap things up. Chill out everyone.

Also can we talk about Brannon, named after Lydia’s line? Dude. So excited to see where this goes. Power to the “world walkers” and firehearts.

Okay every part of this book had me on the edge of my seat.

Fucking Bryce going to Valaris and hanging out with the sass queen herself Nesta. The Asteri being intergalactic parasites that feed on people magic and all the shit that we learn about how Midgard came to be the way it is. Hel being another world and not a part of Midgard. Ruhn and Lidia being mates.

All the shit that goes one is just one roller coater after another. Honestly it's so hard to remember everything that happened it was all so crazy.

Of course it was great and I can't wait to read the next SJM book. Hopefully it's something in the ACOTAR world so we can see what Nesta goes with the starsword.
