I can´t believe I finally finished it!
Well, it took a journey with long waits and only this book to read, but I finished it.

Now all I can say is that I don´t really know why I didn´t like it so much. In my opinion, it was a little slow in its story-telling. However, the themes and conflicts in this story are actaully not boring or unimportant. It´s about returning to your family and dealing with things in the past, as well as the conflict of doing what is right.
It has some really great sentences and ideas.

So, for everyone who likes a story about a young woman staying with her family and uncovering a secret in her family´s past about a relative no one mentioned from 100 years ago and how this affects her life and the way she sees the world, this is your book!

also: the cover gets extra credits :) it´s so lovely and the colors are just amazing

The book is very nicely written, but the plot is beyond tired -- young woman, unsure what she wants out of life, goes home for some reason, finds secret documents that shed light on an unknown part of her family history. In finding out what really happened, she figures out what she wants out of life. Nothing about this book elevated the plot past that summary, unfortunately.

Having just stumbled across this book after forgetting to review it when I first read it I can only say that I loved the themes of this book. I remember being transported to and entranced by a part of the world I don't normally find particularly interesting (sorry). For me, the fact that I still think of the characters and happenings in the book two years on outweighs any missing sense of realism in the storyline.

I really enjoyed this. It wasn't too heavy but very interesting and nicely written.

i absolutely loved it. i really like her writing stile. i don't think the story line was dragged or done to quickly, i tink really good. and i liked the characters, they were not perfect, they had their flaws. all in one, i really liked and i would recomend it.

If there's something to learn or try to enact in my life, it is what Rose writes in the letter to her daughter: do not act out of anger, only act out of love. If you can't then do not act at all.
