This was a tough book to get through due to the slow pace and the dismal tone by the end. As always the writing itself is good and I liked the story for what it was and will continue the series.

A most excellent historical-fiction account of the Sons of Mil. Highly recommended.

She enjoys rain for its wetness, winter for its cold, summer for its heat. She loves rainbows as much for fading as for their brilliance. It is easy for her, she opens her heart and accepts everything.

I read over a quarter of this and just couldn't get into it. I thought it would be a great fit for me and the story was interesting...just not interesting enough. I certainly don't need a book to move at rocket-pace, but this was dreadfully slow. Bummer. :(

Fairly slow paced, but with engaging characters and some really lovely prose.
