Perhaps 4.5? This was a fantastic book of poems! Andrea Gibson really cuts to the point with a lyrical acumen. Each of these poems provoked lots of thought, regardless if it was a single sentence, a single stanza, or several pages long.
I knew when I kept seeing and loving their spoken word poetry on IG that I had to get a copy of one of their poetry books and I will definitely be picking up more. Highly recommend!

Picked this poem book up randomly and started reading without knowing who/ or what the poems would be about.
It's so brave to write one's heart on the pages of a book. Bleeding out for everyone to read. I cried in some of these. It's so beautiful to see someone's vulnerable moments on a page. To speak of love when this world has a lack of it. To see all the injustice and pain. And I do agree that world has been so unkind to the LGBTQ community.
I had a classmate commit suicide because he didn't want to be gay (his words) and he didn't even want to come out to his parents for fear of what they would think. It's just so heart breaking. Despite our beliefs I believe everyone should try and see things from the perspective of someone who's been ashamed/ shunned their whole lives. When we all should just love.
Do I agree with everything this person said? No.
(Religion things)
Is it still beautiful- yes.
It's not my place to disagree I'm merely a spectator reading some of the pages in this persons heart.

So many of these poems rang out to me, especially as I’m on a bumpy illness journey of my own. I’ve been reading on my walks to and from, and rides on, the bus, and this one traveled well with me.
“but my voice is alive
and right now it is the only justice
system I trust
to ensure men like you
understand the law
of gravity, understand
you will always be held down
by what you held down.”
In a whirl of thinking about calls, and falls, and recoveries, Andrea’s words gave me a moment of refuge

Absolutely exquisite collection of poetry.
Beautiful heartbreaking hopeful gorgeous thoughtful painful - so many words to describe such a collection of poems and I’m sure there are so many more words between my laughter and embarrassment and tears and sadness and happiness. Will have to look out for more of this author, but glad I judge a book by its cover because apparently I do a pretty good job of it.
