This was my first Lisa Jackson book. She is overly descriptive. I found I wasn’t that interested in the story. I’ll try another to see if it was just me and timing of reading the book.

OMG. She has a way with her psychological thrillers that keep you on the edge of your seat. You don’t have to read these in order but there is connections to the past stories. Either way the stories are diabolical and intense with a twist that you won’t see coming.

This was my second book by Lisa Jackson (her latest Tell Me was excellent). I read the audio version of Absolute Fear (and have not read the others in the series, which I will read later as sure would be helpful). This could be a standalone; however, looking forward to reading Shiver and her previous books.

As her other book, this was definitely a thriller filled with suspense – the narrator did an outstanding job with the characters. The setting was a mental hospital with lots of secrets to uncover and bad deeds. Eve was the main character who spied on mental patients when she was a child with her best friend Roy.

Eve/Cole was a good combo and the book was very intriguing; however, the ending was rather strange as replayed it a few times to make sure I had not missed anything. Assume it will pick up with the following book (New Orleans 5 & 6).

A thrilling mystery with lots of twists, and turns and dead bodies along the way. You just never know who is out for revenge and the lengths they will go to get their way!

"Every Serial Killer...

A serial killer is stalking the streets of New Orleans. The victims are killed in a ritual fashion, a series of numbers tattooed into their bodies. There are no clues, no connections except one: a crumbling old asylum that was once the scene of unspeakable madness--and is now the calling card of a new kind of fear.

Is Searching For...

Eve Renner knows Our Lady of Virtues Hospital well. As the daughter of one of its doctors, she spent her childhood exploring its secrets chambers, hidden rooms, and forbidden passageways. Now, somewhere in the decaying asylum lies the key to a betrayal from the past whose echoes are being felt with a vengeance--a crime beyond imagining that seems to lead to Eve herself.

The Perfect Victim...

As each new body is found and forgotten, memories surface, and Eve must race to put together a deadly puzzle, one terrifying piece at a time. A killer is watching, planning, luring her back to the ruins of Our Lady and the shocking truths hidden there. For the sins of the past must be revealed, and the price paid--in blood..." (From Amazon)

A great romantic suspense thriller.

Continuation of last Montoya & Bentz book, again revolving around the asylum, more insight into characters. Good thriller, good ending!

Great book!

At first I just couldn't get into the story. However, about half way through it really got interesting. The story follows different characters in segments. The book is about a serial killer who is murdering everyone who is connected to Eve Renner and Our Lady of Virtues Asylum. He is terrorizing Eve along the way and stalking her.

HUGE plot twist at the end! I never saw it coming which was nice. The whole book left me wondering what was going to happen next. I can honestly say I never figured out who the real killer was until the author told me. Which was a nice switch since usually I have the books I read figured out within the first few pages.

Definately recommend this book.

Het verhaal was redelijk goed. Maar de familiebanden werden mij toch net iets te ingewikkeld om goed te kunnen blijven volgen. Wel is het goed genoeg om meer van deze schrijfster te lezen.

I'm pretty sure this was a Lifetime movie. Still, it suits for a quick, easy and intriguing read on a Friday night.

Eve Renner receives a mysterious call from her friend Roy Kajak in the middle of the night, asking her to meet him at his uncle’s cabin. She leaves her boyfriend Cole Dennis behind and finds a gruesome scene at the cabin. She soon senses she’s in danger and in a flash, she’s shot but not before seeing Cole’s face in the window. Three months later, she returns to New Orleans following her recuperation and Cole is released from jail since the evidence against him is shaky and Eve’s memory of that night is faulty. However, it’s soon clear that whoever murdered Roy isn’t done and there’s a serial killer in their midst and the victims are all tied to the closed and abandoned Our Lady of Virtues Hospital.

Sound familiar? A serial killer in New Orleans with a descriptive name (The Reviver) who uses religious themes as part of his mission and is connected to that abandoned asylum…the same themes we’ve seen in the prior three books. And, the author continues to liberally use racial stereotyping throughout. Lastly, there are continuity errors that are inexcusable, making the resolution implausible.

My rating has very little to do with the story because I’m finding the repetition beyond tiresome. However, the relationship between Eve and Cole is interesting and the narrator, Joyce Bean, delivered an incredible performance. I listened at a faster speed level to get through it quicker. Otherwise, this would be a 2-star rated book. I’m only reading/listening because I’m participating in a group read of the series. Unfortunately, I think I’ll wave the red flag, signaling the end of my participation. This author is just not for me. 3.5 stars for the narrator.
