This felt a bit like insta-love to me. I don’t think there was enough to show how or why they fell in love as adults.

I don’t understand why Evan would go looking for her in the first place; his reasoning made no sense.
And the duel was ridiculous, I couldn’t even take the book seriously at that point.
I also really hated how Thorne’s PTSD was really glossed over in this book.

Not my favorite of the series, but still a great read. Kate and Thorne's relationship was overly angsty at some points. There was a brief period where I suspended my beliefs about the time period, but Spindle Cove is so loveable, I rolled with it. The introduction of the Gramercys was delightful, I love Colin, Minvera, Bram, and Susanna and the HEA was sweet enough to give me cavities. Looking forward to the next one.

Absolutely no plot - boring - could have been interesting.

I liked the grumpy/sunshine trope in this one. Corporal Thorne is broken and sad, but he has a soft heart. Katie grew up an orphan and she is talented music teacher and strong willed. There is an adorable puppy, hilarious incidents (like the one with the melon) and an emotional slow burn romance. There is family drama with things being unburied from the past, a ball and even a duel! I had lots of fun reading this one.

Look, Tessa, I’m always entertained but I simply will never get behind a romantic male lead who doesn’t think he’s good enough to be loved. It’s insufferable in real life and it’s insufferable in fiction.

That guy who keeps pushing you away? Yeah. No. Bye then.
