I really didn’t like the beginning of this book. Max annoyed me so much in the first chapter I almost DNFed it. I decided to stick it though and I did really end up liking it.

First book I read that not only acknowledges the pandemic in 2020 but aims to capture the universal emotions felt during that period of time.
I liked the idea but I found myself reading it quite slowly. It was okay but I appreciate how this book will act as a time capsule for future readers.

"When the voices in my head are loud, the ocean is louder. When my worries feel too big, the ocean is always bigger. When I meet the ocean with heartache, it gives me somewhere to drown it."
it goes without saying that every single one of us has been impacted by the pandemic in some way or another. "hello (from here)" follows two teenagers with varying backgrounds that find love in an unlikely situation. i skimmed through a huge chunk of this book. i definitely relate to jonah with his panic and anxiety disorders, but aside from the mental illness rep, i didn't get much out of this story. the ending felt arguably rushed.

Ok so I was actually really surprised by this book. I was hesitant to read it at first because who wants to read about real world problems when there are plenty of other books to read that aren’t talking about a topic that hits too close to home. In the end though I really enjoyed the romance and the plot in general.

Super sweet. A perfect start to what I’m sure will be a pandemic genre for years to come. A mix of rom com, indie vibes, California cool, and starcrossed crushes
