Finished this in Del Mar at my father's office while waiting for him. This is one of my top favorites to date. It's an expanded fictional story about a biblical figure, Dinah, daughter of Leah, that was only mentioned briefly because she was a woman. The author filled the novel with great contents of joy, love, sadness, suffering and more. It also included a unique biblical female perspective---explaining the powers of menstruation, midwifery, and tent tasks and roles. A very gracefully written novel for a genre I've never been keen on.
Twisting (dare I say, heretical twisting) of the ancient biblical stories, but I loved the humanity of the depictions and especially the honor and complexity given to the female characters.
Made me cry in the end. FUn to learn about womnhood in biblical times

Dinah goes through life as a bystander everyone else's story. And it fits her character. She's not perfect, although she is dangerously close to it. She's strong in a quiet way. Towards the end she finally really finds her voice and begins to be the main character in her own story. It's kinda beautiful
