A Castle Full of Cats by Ruth Sanderson

A royal couple has countless pet cats because the queen, visually reminiscent of Marie Antoinette, adores them. The cats try to win over the King as well, leaving him gifts (a mouse in his shoe) and making him art (scratching panels on the rococo stucco walls) but to no avail. He leaves in a huff, then returns with a dog. The cats fear this means war, but then realize the dog is a perfect playmate, and they all live happily ever after. Text is simple for younger readers and will hold their attention, especially for fans of cats. The bewildered expressions on the King’s face are priceless. A fun picture book kids will like to check out and take home.

Book #74 Read in 2015
A Castle Full of Cats by Ruth Sanderson (children's book)

This is a beautifully illustrated, rhyming verse children's book. A queen has a castle full of cats and the king has had enough. His castle and life are overrun by cats. What is a man to do? Cat lovers young and old will like this book. I borrowed this book from my public library.

Utterly charming. I thought it was especially fine that while looking through the king's books one cat found the word cat and under a magnifying glass. Loved those touches!

Great picture book to read with a kiddo on your lap. Pictures are a little too busy for storytime groups, but a child will enjoy looking at all the different shenanigans the cats are getting up to around the castle.

The lavish illustrations are fun, but it's a little bit long for the plot, and I found the ending confusing.

Read this for the king and the king’s expression only ahahahaha. The story’s quite entertaining, not to mention the illustrations.

P.s. there are sooooo many cats.
