While I found the end to be a bit of a drag and unnecessarily drawn out, I liked the book a lot! I'll continue seeking out Sarah Penner's work and read-alikes.

DNF. Read half the book and it’s only getting weirder and more ridiculous. So disappointing and I can’t waste anymore time on it.

It was pretty predictable but I think I enjoyed it more than the Lost Apothecary.

The Lost Apothecary was so good and I was eager to read her sophomore novel. I really enjoyed this one. Initially, this book is a slow burn but picks up about halfway through. I felt the internal monologues and ruminations of the characters were very prominent. It was really interesting how Lenna’s character was third POV and the MMC was first POV. I wonder what was Penner’s intent with that choice. Loved the conflict of illusion versus reality. There’s also a fantastic twist that I definitely did not see coming toward the end. Overall, a great dark mystery read for the spooky season.

I really enjoyed the Lost Apothecary, so I decided that I wanted to pick up Sarah Prenner’s sophomore novel. I’ve seen negative reviews, but this book is a slow to start. The ending was very good and she got me with a twist I wasn’t expecting. You jump back between Lenna’s third person POV and the MMC’s 1st person POV so that was different than I was expecting, but I enjoyed it!

It was good, I’d give it more of a 3.5 due to the ending.

I loved her debut novel but found this one to be underwhelming and hard to get through… I absolutely loved the premises of this book but found it repetitive and not quite what I thought it would be…
