Maybe it was just because this is the arc where they really start to unveil the long game or m a y b e it was because I read it at 2 am but I must say, this was the most enjoyable book in the series so far. They translated a very long and very involved arc wonderfully, changing up some of the fight scenes and integrating the one liners without it seeming rushed or letting it drag into exhaustion. My only critique would be that they gave one of (in my opinion) Magnus' most gentle lines ("Lucas, would your mother have struck you?") to Merle, but I guess that's more in character as the cleric/healer/fatherly member of the party. I was r e a l l y glad they kept my favorite line in the whole arc ("I'm gonna kick your ass little man!"), it had me laughing out loud just like the first time I listened to TAZ, that energy is truly unmatched. They handled the beginning of Taako and Kravitz' relationship wonderfully, building a suuuper strong base for it to develop so that the reader actually has text to build off of, unlike in the podcast where it's more ~implied~ gay chaos. Guess it's easier to build a romance when you're not roleplaying with you brother lmao. Speaking of, thank GOD we're finally getting some Killian/Carey content, nothing like some battle lesbians to brighten up the apocalypse. Again. Carey Pietsch is a wonderful illustrator, the movement and life in her work captures the story so perfectly and literally had me choking with laughter as the boys' eyes bugged outta their heads and then crying ten minutes later as the prophecy of the seven birds was told. Dunno if I could have asked for a better adaptation of one of my favorite pieces of media. :))

A nice return to form after Petals to the Metal—it deviates from the podcast in spots in ways that really work to further the overarching narrative.
