I know the book was written like 50 years ago but, there are so many slurs. This book rambles on and really had no logically sense to why things were written the way they were even if Goldman was trying to make it seem like he was adapting from an original and changing it to fit a narrative that his Dad told him and he is trying to make an even better version for his son. Ehhh... go rent the movie. It is one of the rare occasions it is better. It changed a lot of the book. Besides the language the movie made it so much more concise and made more sense.
Graphic: Animal cruelty, Animal death, Fatphobia, Injury/Injury detail, Murder, Physical abuse, Racial slurs, Suicidal thoughts, Torture, Violence, and Xenophobia

It's odd. I loved this book and couldn't put it away... But then after finishing most of it, I was simply annoyed and fed up. The characters are static and the 'old-fashioned gender roles' became dominting. I simply lost interst in reading "the ending" of the story.
Graphic: Body horror, Fatphobia, Misogyny, Physical abuse, Blood, Bullying, Confinement, Death, Kidnapping, and Violence

I enjoyed reading it, and it was well written, a true classic, but I can’t help feeling that in this instant, the movie is better than the book. Wesley seemed almost abusive in the book and I get that it was due to his own pain and trying to save Buttercup, but it doesn’t excuse how he treats her.
Moderate: Kidnapping, Infidelity, Alcoholism, Body horror, Death, Domestic abuse, Misogyny, Blood, and Emotional abuse
Minor: Ableism, Physical abuse, Suicidal thoughts, Grief, Self harm, Suicide attempt, Toxic relationship, Gore, Fire/Fire injury, and Sexual content

This is my favorite book in the entire world, and now I don't know how I'm supposed to read any book that will come close to being as good as this one. There's such a great mix of love and adventure, you never think the story is too slow or there are not enough elements going on. This is an amazing, heartwarming read, and it's one of those books you feel is made for you.
Graphic: Death and Gore
Minor: Physical abuse
