Some of the main themes felt a bit forced or just didn’t resonate with me, but as always I loved learning the history and science. It’s more of a memoir-biography combo than a science book, though there are plenty of fun facts about fish throughout, including an explanation of why they don’t exist as the title promises.

A book about taxonomy and seekinh inspiration in the face of personal failures...and also murder, eugenics, and proving that the category of fish isn't accurate. Oh, and a very flawed hero.

CW for self harm.

I learned a lot from this relatively short audiobook, but it wasn't quite what I expected. Which is my own fault for not reading a summary first, but for other readers have a heads up that there's a lengthy dive into eugenics that is well reported and interesting, but heavier than I was anticipating from the cover.
