Borrowed from KU.
It has some minor historical inaccuracies as far as the launch itself went - wrong city - but otherwise was a solid story and I ended up binge-reading it in one sitting (which wasn't the plan). It was melancholy, because the family was fractured and had their own issues, but also steeped in the issues of society at the time. Toxic masculinity, sexism, all that 'fun' stuff. But the kids try to figure themselves and the world out, and what they can do in it. What they can do to improve it.

A slow paced slice of life story about a dysfunctional family during the time of the failed Challenger launch. I listened to this on audiobook with my family and my partner and kids DNF because they quickly lost interest. I was invested enough in the main character Bird (a ND middle school girl obsessed with the pending space launch) to finish. There were no surprises but there was some nice character development and the sibling dynamics was reminiscent of my own childhood. While this isn’t a book I would recommend off hand, I did enjoy it.
Moderate: Bullying
Minor: Death and Injury/Injury detail
