A rich book. Definitely one I'll need to re-read at some point, as it has more riches than I can extract in a single reading. The depth of this book meant that I'd often read a passage, mentally realize what it said, then go back and read it again, with greater care, taking in the meaning. The poems interspersed with the prose serve as a treasure-trove of their own. The kicker, as I see it, is that Boethius wrote this book, oh, 1,500 years ago. And yet he struggles with and anticipates many of the concerns of our oh-so-modern era.

The first part of the book, which deals with fortune, happiness, and unhappiness is ok. later the book gets into good, evil, and God. I found this discussion to be dull, and less than enlightening. book would get one star if not for the first couple of sections.

this translation was super readable but that's not even what i want to write about. listen. listen. this book was printed with 1.5 spacing and it is INCREDIBLE. you can underline things without crossing out the line beneath! you don't have to squint at the page! reading experience 10000% improved by the layout of this edition.

A very interesting look at philosophical ideas of good and evil, fate and chance, Divine Providence and free will; only the last of which I felt was not adequately reasoned and evidenced
