I loved, loved, loved it. Read it in one sitting. So many parallels to Betty Smith's "A Tree Grows in Brooklyn." So heartbreaking but life-affirming.
as an immigrant that doesn’t feel like they belong and kinda don’t want to belong, feel homesick for a home they never had, I ABSOLUTELY LOVED THIS BOOK

as a latina, the house on mango street really hit home for me. i picked the perfect time to read it with everything happening in la right now. some parts didn’t fully land, but the emotion and truth in it made it worth it.
This book is delightful and harrowing. I’ve never read anything like it. It following a Mexican American girls life from her perspective growing up in her neighborhood. I love how true it feels to the way kids see the world. How the innocence of children makes experiences better and worse. It’s a quick and important read. This is a book I’ll never forget.
