Absolutely loved this. The books that are emotionally challenging to read are usually the best ones to read and this was a great example. Loved the takes on generational trauma, and vulnerability. Loved the magical realism and fantastical aspects too. And mainly loved the lesson abiut how chosen family can help you in the midst of challenges :)

Absolutely loved this book. I highly recommend seeing if your local library has the audiobook as well.

I’ve now reread it multiple times and enjoy it more and more each reading. It’s such a poetic and circular story.

Orquidea Divina is dying, she sends a letter to all her children and grandchildren to come to join her before she passes. This Magical Realism novel follows two timelines, Orquidea's life as a young girl and woman and the present day where her family is facing the death of their  Abuela Orquidea. Orquidea has always held some magic in her and her home. With her death, the magic begins to fade and alter deeply affecting some family members. The family starts to seek how Orquidea obtained the magic to set things right.

I absolutely loved this book, it was so enchanting and captivating. Orquidea is such an interesting and powerful character. Her grandchildren, the protagonists of the present day, struggle with facing the reality of their family history. I feel that they each had a solid character growth. The family dynamic was so funny and realistic.

I honestly really enjoyed this book and cannot really think of any strong critiques. It had good pacing, was both a character-driven and plot-driven plot, and it wasn't super predictable (well, maybe some moments but it was not the majority of the novel)

I want to give this a score of infinite. I have never and will never read a book that delighted me as much as this one. It gave off a Silvia Moreno-Garcia vibe mixed with Encanto but only if Encanto didn’t have the jovial numbers by Lin-Manuel Miranda. The twist was stunning and sad and the final two chapters left me in tears because it was over but I immediately wanted to close the book and start it over again. I have spent my life running from my Montoya last name but, for the first time ever, I feel like embracing it.
