I waited way too long to post my review (I finished this book a few weeks ago), so now I barely remember what happened. But I do know that I really enjoyed this book, the main characters and the overall plot...except toward the end when things got a little weird and scattered and confusing.

perfect example of a series in which the author has an amazing concept in the first book but ruins it by the third because they have to make it make sense

DNF @ 50% after everything interesting (paranormal and/or psychological hallucinations) was left in the dust of some instalove that made me want to puke. Just read a bunch of spoilery reviews and am SO glad I didn't waste more time on this.

I knew I'd been hearing about this book for a while, but I didn't realize it was *so* old. It's the tropeiest troper in tropeville. Let us never return to a time where this was the norm!!! Yawn. Boo. Hiss.

0.5 stars. Ugh.

i have really mixed feelings about this book. the concept is breathtaking and the story itself keep my interest from page one. the writing style was brilliant and kept my mind foggy- you never know what’s real and i’ve never experienced that with a book before (plus the imagery was amazing.) however, the characters lacked depth and originality, the romance was incredibly forced, the main character was conveniently white even though most of her family is indian and had this “i’m not like other girls” attitude throughout the novel, the main love interest’s personality shifted like half way through for no reason and without warning- basically the characters were rough. also the way it handles mental illness is probably some of the worst representation i’ve ever seen with quotes such as “i’ve gotta keep my crazy in check” and making therapy out to be this Big Bad thing where mara can’t go or she’ll be pUt iN a MeNtaL hOsPiTaL. i just- this story has so much potential and i will probably finish the series, i’m just disappointed :((

I enjoyed the book. It was a cute YA, easy to read and a fun story line.
I didn’t like the ending very much but the rest of the book made up for it.
Finished it in two days, totally worth it.

This one earned its fourth star merely on its ability to hold my attention, as it was definitely not the most intellectual book. But I am a sucker for a little spooky paranormal issue that is teased out slowly. I can't wait until the next installment in this series!

A serious page-turner for me! A great mixture of mystery and a little horror, along with a very interestingly unreliable narrator.
Excited to read the next one!
