This book was fine. I struggled to care about the plot and the characters. The characters were decent, the plot was alright, and the writing style was okay.

This story was cute. I didn’t like the characters in the beginning, but they grow on you throughout. It gets a lot better at the end of the story. Not really my kind of thing, but I appreciated all the sci-fi/fantasy references.

For some reason, I don't like this one as much as Geekerella (the first in the series), but I'm chalking that up to the narrator for one of the main characters. Overall, it had the same nerdy, romantic vibe of the first book.

Alright, this was cute!

I didn't love Geekerella as much as I hoped I would, but I did download the second and third book on a whim because Audible had them for free. I chose to listen to this after going through my first ever reading slump and it was just the lighthearted story I needed to kind of brush that dust off myself and get back into my books.

My biggest con with this book (pun not intended) was the way that Imogene kept thinking that Ethan was admiring her just because she was playing the role of Jess. Her internal monologue about how there was no way he could see her as someone separate was just really irritating. However, I guess if you're looking at it from the perspective of a seventeen-year-old, maybe it makes some sense because that maturity just isn't there yet. I don't know.

I absolutely loved the character growth that Jess went through. She was someone I didn't like at all when I first began reading, but by the end, she was my favorite character. Seeing her accept herself and her sexuality, find the things that she loved outside of acting, and really toss off what others thought about her was super cool. I appreciated that a lot.

The switching places trope is one I've always found amusing and it's interesting to see how it was done in this setting. I do love reading about the con itself and I frequently find myself wishing it really existed because it sounds like a blast. Same with the show, honestly. I could see myself being just as much of a fangirl as Imogene (okay, maybe not that much but still).

It was cute how there were little nods to Geekerella throughout this one, like Sage making an appearance, The Magic Pumpkin being at the con, etc. I love how these books are great as standalones but how they're even better when read together. Overall, very cute. Nothing spectacular, but definitely cute.

As a fangirl, it’s really hard for me NOT to like a book about fandoms.

I have to say, though, that it took me a while to get into this book. Jess is a bit of a snob in the beginning, and her disgust of fandom and cons quickly got on my nerves. Thankfully, Ashley Poston knows enough about being a pop culture fan to turn even the most skeptic of characters into a fangirl.

While I wasn’t sure I’d like it, in the end it nearly brought me to tears. Because that’s the power of fandom and I’ll never stop loving that part of it. And the fanboys and manbabies can keep complaining, but that’s because they’ll never find that small pocket of happiness we get from our favourite movies/shows/books/video games, etc.

My only complain is that there was one too many references, especially to a certain wizarding world. I get that it was released in 2019, but she could’ve toned it down a bit and the story would’ve been better for it.

Ashley Poston’s books have a lovely charm to them that make you feel at home. I read them for the wonderful way her universes are built devoid of judgment, blame, and negativity. They’re a gasp of fresh air during troubling times when the world is upside down. So for that she will always have a special place in my heart!

Coming to the plot of this one it reminded me of my favorite childhood story the Princess and the Pauper. But it also makes you think way too much of the Princess Switch and eeeeee I needed this book to purge that from my mind. The thing in this book is I was excited to see TWO couples and TWO love interests and TWO storylines but it did few like we got half of each. If one couples chemistry was explored properly the other ones story wasn’t developed. If one characters arc was properly developed the other was just given an easy way out plot and wrapped up fast towards the end. Also I didn’t understand why this book referred one of the main characters as the queen of the con and why she ended up helping even Elle out through shortcuts. Dude. What.

I really feel we needed more on the characters in this book. Darien and Elle were both allowed to have their own moment in their book and I just didn’t feel Jess and Imogen got that here.

But we still loved the vibe so we happy.

Not as good as the first book, the development just felt a little rushed and I wished the characters would communicate more.
