One of my favorite narrators - she makes it so easy to listen!  The story was wonderful to listen to as well, I appreciated the characters and joining their journey.

I loved the eloquent words about my favorite place on earth, the UP.

Meh, mother figure tries her best for her kid but  fails and social services should’ve gotten involved  see also The Glass Castle. Love doesn’t cancel out child neglect despite this trope. Cool UP setting though.

I was not fond of this book. I found Laurel Hill ( the mother) to be annoying. The first 60% of the book was just well round. Story did not seem to flow for me. It felt like reading a diary entry with no depth. Luckily the last 50 pages of the book I enjoyed. Yes even for me not really enjoying it I kept reading hoping it would get better.

Reads like a YA but it’s a powerful book and evokes the UP.
