Fun work that sets up how Zorro became Zorro. Allende knows her continuity and is ingenious in coming up with fun ways for explaining certain aspects of Zorro's personality and the characters in his universe.

This is a fine, romantic tale of the swashbuckling hero. It's a good read. But it's not the kind of literature I've come to expect from Allende. The date noted is when my book club read it; another book club has chosen it for our January 2009 selection - I'm not sure I'll re-read it.

For an adventure book written by the great Isabel Allende, this book was awfully...boring.
