I received this book for an honest review.

What can I say here but for once I actually liked the story way better than I did the characters. Crazy, crazy. So with the characters we have Skylar and Chace. First we will start with Skylar. She is a trained dragon slayer out on the hunt for an elusive dragon. She works with a special team of slayers that are out for shifters of any kind. The odd thing about this was that they were trained not really to kill the shifters unless they had no choice. They were suppose to capture them and bring them back to The Field where they were to be rehabilitated and put back in society. Kind of sounded like a pound to me lol. As far as Skylar goes, well I really wasn't her biggest fan. She was just odd to me, there really wasn't much to her and she just left me feeling kind of empty. Like I said she was odd. Now I liked Chace a little more. But then again he was a hot guy shifter with a tattoo lol. But to me he was lacking passion but maybe that's just how his character was meant to be. It would kind of make sense, since he was kind of in the mindset of giving up. So yeah maybe I do get him a little more now. But his deal is that he has lived for a 1000 years with a curse that was placed on him by a jilted lover. And he has finally realized that he can't take it anymore. Everyone he has ever cared about is dyeing. He feels alone, empty and he doesn't want to live anymore. With this decision he goes in search of the one one person who may have the cure. But likr always with a cure there is a price to pay. And this is where a mistaken meeting with Skylar happens and he realizes that he has found the one thing he has always wanted and now he must give it all up. And let me add that this line right here, almost made me pass out: "She fucks like a dragon, that's for sure"

I thought this take on dragon shifters was awesome. I loved the whole "other half of your heart" thing. That had me acting all swoony and girly lol. So yeas, I swooned, I teared up and I got mad. And there were a couple of face fanning incidents, whoo! But overall to me this story lacked the passion that shifter usually show. And like I realized earlier, maybe that is how it was supposed to be. But I really hate that it was just barley there. And in the beginning Skylar and Chace's relationship almost seemed to forced. I did love all the twist and turns this book had though, I was pleasantly surprised quite a few times. I would think that I had it figured out but I was wrong at almost every turn. And be warned ladies and gentlemen that this book ends with one hell of a cliff hanger that will have you launching your kindle. Sadly, I did this exact thing. But there were no causalities, everyone is in one piece. So now I must sit here as patiently as I can and wait for th e next book. Grrr Lizzy, why must you torture me? By the way is Mason going to have a story? (Hint, hint)

Scorching!

I find myself very surprised to have ended on 4 stars for CHARRED HEART, since I was *this* close to DNFing it at the beginning. I didn't like how quickly the hero and heroine jumped into bed together. We're talking chapter three, after speaking maybe 20 words to each other. No build-up whatsoever, just straight to it. Where's the romance in that? I really didn't care for it and was convinced I'd never be able to connect to them as a couple after that. And so my hand was hovering over the big, red detonate button. BUT! I am very glad I didn't in the end because the story actually turned out to be really enjoyable. In fact, I liked it so much I've already bought book 2!

Lesson to be learned from this: Sometimes it pays to give books a chance past a slightly dodgy beginning.

So. The set-up. You have one-thousand-year old dragon shifter, Chace, who's tired of his endless existence, and of watching every human he grows close to die. He seeks out the help of an elusive supernatural whom he hopes will be able to reverse the curse that made him part dragon, and allow him to live out the rest of his mortal life as a bog-standard human.

Then we have Skylar, a dragon "slayer", even though she's never actually slayed a single dragon because Chace is the last one in existence. There's a whole bunch more to her story, and finding out everything that happened to her was the most enjoyable part for me.

Skylar and Chace spend most of the book in a sort of sexual haze, only occasionally coming up for air long enough to realise something ain't quite right. For example, if they're supposed to be natural enemies, what's with the crazy chemistry the two of them share?

While Chace and Skylar's relationship started out as nothing but physical, the author did manage to convince me by the end that some real feelings had developed between them. That's not to say they waltzed off into the sunset, however. If you're under the impression this is a paranormal romance with a Happily Ever After, you'd be mistaken - as I was. We're going to be continuing with Skylar and Chace's relationship in the next book. I suppose that would make this an erotic Urban Fantasy series, if you need a label for it. The sex scenes were plentiful and graphic, and the storyline was interesting and the wordbuilding fresh. So although I'll always wish the beginning had been more anticipatory, I'd definitely recommend this as a fun, quick and very sexy read!

Thanks netgalley for this great read in exchange for a review. First of all, you don't find many dragon shifter books, and this one really got me in the first chapter. The chemistry could have been a bit more intense because there is weeks in between sex scenes but the scenes are great. I love the mystery around Mr Nothing.... Very cute.

I loved it! The characters are headstrong and well developed. Despite being a story about "fated" love neither of the main characters quite believes in it. They both refuse to think their destined mate/lover is someone they've just met. It's a wonderful change to the typical wham bam "we are meant to be together and totally accepting this" shifter type novel. Skylar is a slightly annoying - being unable to acknowledge when she's wrong which in turn leads to unnecessary fumbling/rescuing. Chace has an irritable tendency to have massive pity parties when usually it was his own damn fault. But even those quirks don't stop this book from being worthy of 4 star love. The plot of shifter slayers was interesting and the unexpected twist made it even more so. Be warned there is a mild cliffhanger but I don't mind because I'm excited to see where Ford takes us next in Charred Tears!

A gripping read and an interesting concept of dragon shifter and slayer/protector. Chace is a dragon shifter who is 1000 years old. He longs for a normal life where he can live then die like the many friends he's had along the way. Sky walks into the shifter bar to capture him for rehabilitation but ends up entranced by him. All is not what it seems when it comes to rehabilitation, capture and relationships. They just can't seem to be free of one another. Looking forward to the sequel.
