Still one of my very favorite books. Never loses its charms, and the Cheshire Cat remains one of the best characters in fiction.

Like many of my generation, I grew up with the Disney Alice in Wonderland, which was a feather light romp through cartoon conflict. I loved the story even more when as an adult I read Lewis Carroll's actual work, which is dark and feels far too deep for a child (but Alice is like very few other children). I appreciate both (and also the weirdness-steeped adventure tale of Tim Burton's version).

the cartoon is very close to the book... and Alice is still so annoying sometimes!
