It's not that the writing is bad, it's actually quite decent, I just could not relate to any of the characters, let alone like them. The book is several short stories, all but one focusing on a female narrator who is cheating on her partner. I just couldn't find any sympathetic characters, an found most of them cruel, unemotional, and vapid. So, yeah...2 stars.

This is one of 3 books that I read and then immediately started again once finished.

I might even do it a third time.

Several short stories—all which leave me wanting more.

What modern, non-dramatized infidelity in friendships and relationships looks like and how it does, or doesn't, ultimately matter in a series of stories with cleverness that makes you laugh, quietness that makes you contemplative, and overarching sweetness that shows what love looks like, how it evolves and how it endures.

In this collection of short stories, Katherine Heiny, portrays the other, perhaps more realistic aspects of love. A woman torn between her love of two men, a woman loving someone in a way they can never return, and the deep interior life of a woman involved in an extra marital affair. Although it could be quickly consumed on the beach, Heiny lends a wizened depth to portraying of how complicated love can be. -Lisanne E.
