super unique, incredible story!

For Necromancer Cassius Corbin, the only thing he’s sure of is that death comes for us all. Ever since his mother’s death at the hands of the Hewitts, that very motto has been engrained in his mind. Now that he’s back in Winslow to attend university, he’s hoping to keep his head down so he can find his family’s missing folios. But all of that flies out the window once he meets Graeme Hewitt, the ridiculously attractive son of his family’s archenemies.

Graeme is annoying, and frustrates Cassius to no end, but once they’re forced to work together on a school project, they must learn to tolerate each other’s presence. As Graeme and Cassius spend more time with each other, their attraction only grows stronger. But as they work together to uncover what truly happened in their pasts, secrets are revealed that could destroy their fragile relationship.

This book was an absolutely fantastic read! I loved the unique and bewitching world the author has created. The blood feud between the Corbins and the Hewitts was incredibly intriguing as well, and the world-building was absolutely exquisite. Graeme and Cassius’ story is full of agonizing angst, witty banter, and undeniable chemistry. The author was also able to grab (and keep!) my attention from the very first page.

Graeme. He’s a bit of a romantic, but that’s not the only part of his character that I loved. Graeme is a force to be reckoned with, and I was extremely impressed by his Stormbringer powers. Cassius. He’s dealing with a lot of anger, and he has every right to be upset about things that have happened to him and his loved ones. But I was really proud of how much he grew over the course of the novel!!! I definitely recommend!

4 and 1/2 stars. Almost perfect

I had just come off of reading some great, but angsty mm that were good but without much of a plot... You know , contemporary romance. I needed a book with a plot and preferably a good villain.

This book gave me a lot of what I was looking for. I almost didn't read it. There are certain words or tropes that just turn me off, perhaps to my own detriment. I lose interest when the trope is professor/student or age gap. I stop reading a book blurb when I see grumpy/sunshine or in the case of this book, necromancer ( I won't even consider a book if there is Christmas in the title or mistletoe on the cover). Words like necromancer just tend to make me groan, but this was highly recommended by several sources and I had started and stopped reading at least half a dozen romances that weekend so I thought "what the hell". Here comes the cliche "and I'm so glad I did!" But I am so glad I did because this is the start of a really fast readable series.

A couple of other series with real plots and great story telling I love are The Captive Prince and King of The Dark., Both excellent books. Top tier. The thing about those books that are tough selling points to my best book buddy friend is the initial lack of spice. She doesn't want to wait until the end of the second book until they finally kiss (I'm looking at you captive prince). That is not the case with this one. The only problem here is remembering what the fucking thing is called and being able to pronounce it. Seriously, this one deserves a better title.

This over, whatever it's called, Is a great enemies to lovers where the MC's really do hate each other in a believable way. I like the theme of prejudice and how it is used as well.

The plot was interesting, three world building even more so. I mostly loved the characters, although I did have some issue with the way one of the MC's continued to treat the other and was really playing up his asshole qualities a tad too much. But overall I really liked them. Best of all, I couldn't put it down and when I was forced to by freaking work expectations I couldn't wait to get back to it.

And the sex was good. And frequent, but not saturating. As my friend would say it was spicy ass eating hot ( she really loves a good ass eating.

Side note... We both hate the huge disconnect between book sex and two sex that takes use out of there story. For example when the characters consume a huge meal and then are able to have a marathon session of anal sex afterwards. There was an awesome line towards the rent that did not ignore that elephant in the room and it was hilarious.

The ending was more than a bit Scooby Doo like when all the loose ends were kinda tied up with so much exposition it was ridiculous. There was a line from one of the characters that basically said "they would have gotten away with it if it wasn't for us pesky kids that is straight up the reason it lost half a Star.

The villain didn't end up being one for the ages and was mostly confined to the "this is how it really happened" section, but you know I'm starting book 2 the second I am done writing this thing.

If I could take out all the Spice scenes from this book and bind it in it’s very own novel this would be 10 stars! Beyond the spicy scenes, the plot could not hold my attention. I was not a fan of the constant repetition of a certain issue, even when the MC’s seemed to make considerable progress in their relationship. This issue seemed to drag on until nearly the very end of the book. This book did not end up working out for me.
