A classic. Toni sure writes a heck of a story. Some of the most poignant lines in all of literature .

The way Toni Morrison built each character, even the evil ones, was unlike anything I’ve read before.

I feel really complex feelings about this book. My heart aches for the children, and i was truly wrapped up in the story. TW: incest/ SA
I truly though found the SA to be a bit much, particularly how descriptive it was. It also felt pretty unnecessary for the story being told.
The book is beautifully written and incredibly emotional, my heart really did break particularly for Pecola

I passed on this book during my high school curriculum out of fear my white male teacher would ruin the text for me. I'm very glad that I held off and got to experience this book on my own. Reading the afterword, I realized that this book is meant to change the behavior of the above all. I hope to implement what I've Learned by giving more of my love and attention to those that society has deemed unworthy of it.
