Overall 3.5 stars. This was lackluster in comparison to Milk & Honey in my opinion. I tried to set myself to reading about 5 poems a day but some are literally 7 words long. There were good bits and pieces, but I felt like the majority of this lacked substance and motivation, which she discusses early in the book. Half of it was good in my opinion, and half of it felt like a collection of tweets that came from shower thoughts.
You know when you pickup modern day poetry, chances are high it won’t be like a Walt Whitman piece. However, that does not make it any less real and vulnerable and beautiful. I love the stories and emotions this book walks us through and how it brings us back to ourselves despite it all. I think she could have structured it better though because the transitions were a bit aggressive.
