How this book starts is not great I must say, not the prologue or the present day plot. The flow of the writing, dynamic between any characters, and dialogue feels off compared to the first book which is a bit of a shame.

If Wilder was all caveman and sour from the get go then how did he ever come to that mutual agreement to not do LDR? The math ain’t mathing. He got more irky as the story progresses and gave me f-boy vibes tbh.

Cass on the other hand...girl never actually went through life after 10 years (despite being engaged, going abroad, and having the privilege everyone wants - time to do anything). Those TS references were one thing but I did not appreciate how there’s a child involved either...why Staci why. Davis feels like the only character that makes sense AND HE’S THE PROTAGONIST FOR GOSH SAKE.

Overall there’s just something missing entirely to make the plot come together better that I can’t really put my finger on.

This book was such a great marriage of convenience story!

Tropes:
⚾️ Firefighter/Baseball Player x Teacher
✏️Childhood Sweethearts
🚒 Second Chance
⚾️ Marriage of Convenience
✏️ Small Town
🚒 Single Dad

Cass and Wilder got married in Vegas one night before they left for college, just to know what it would be like since they are separating. Now 10 years later, Cass is back in town, she’s been left at the alter, and he’s got to find a way to tell her that they’re still married. But after a surprise comes up and he definitely needs her to stay married to him, she’s got to figure out how to keep her heart safe from the one that got away.

Cass and Wilder’s story is so good. It was a fun twist to the Vegas wedding trope, and I loved that even years later, Wilder was hung up on her. This story has a lot of complicated emotions, and I really enjoyed exploring them with these characters. So much “finding” in so many ways happened, and I couldn’t put this book down.

Thank you, Staci and GGPR, for sending me a copy of this book!

Not a must read, but still enjoyable

This is NOT a bad book. I think people who read the blurb and are interested will like it. For me though, this story fell flat. The story’s plot is surround by a lie that’s not really a lie. You’re either married or you’re not, it’s that cut and dry. The issue of the “lie” kept being brought up and it was a little bit annoying bc it wasn’t a lie, they were married, just not together…anyway I think I couldn’t jive with the fact that there was so much going on and way to many problems I couldn’t really tell what direction the story was going in and it took some of the enjoyment out of it for me. Like the bully, Trent, the status of their marriage, AND the grandparents was just entirely too much. It felt more like a Cricket story than a second chance romance. I will say though, first half of this book kept my attention and was very swoony.
