What great fun to dive into the Discworld again! This time, it's a re-imagining of the Phantom of the Opera (one of my favourite musicals!) in an Ankh-Morporkian setting with our witches too. Combining a whodunnit mystery, new characters and witty descriptions as usual, this one is a fast paced read.

Several threads happen with this story and converge into one. Agnes, potential-witch-hopeful (but she doesn't want to be one...yet), decided to find her own way in the world, via the opera house. Little does she know, the managers of the establishment are plagued by financial problems, the Ghost haunting the opera house - and people are starting to be killed (It's got a higher body count than I thought, but they're not too bad). Meanwhile in Lancre, Nanny's famous recipe turns out to be a bestseller but she doesn't get paid fair, and that means Granny is determined to confront the publisher, located in the very same great city of Ankh-Morpork, about it. Drawn in by the mystery of the Ghost at the opera house, the witches set off to investigate, and what they found is more complicated than you think.

I love how the story flows in this one, and it feels coherent between the scenes. I love the dynamic between Nanny and Granny, also with Agnes. Right now, I feel Agnes is not as relatable as Magrat to me, but I could understand her frustration and hope for something better. What wonderful personality does she have is yet to be demonstrated, though I could imagine her good hair. The new side characters are enjoyable
Spoilerlike Walter's somehow endearing! I'm slightly confused about him being the Ghost, or is he not actually the Ghost? Wait, there's another Ghost?? I need a reread! Also, somehow I really like Andre? I feel like him and Agnes has some potential there lol.
The action scenes are pretty good too.

It's interesting how some passages gives me such chills. This is one of them:
The show must go on... She'd heard about shows continuing while fire raged around the city, while adragon was roosting on the roof, while there was rioting in the streets outside. Scenery collapsed? The show went on. Leading tenor died? Then appeal to the audience for any student of music who knew the part, and give him his big chance while his predecessor's body cooled gently in the wings. Why? It was only a performance, for heaven's sake. It wasn't like something important. But... the show goes on. Everyone took this so much for granted that they didn't even think about it any more, as though there were fog in their heads.

Some of my favourite scenes:
The poker game in the stables at midnight. It gives me chills.
Granny and Nanny buying a dress in the emporium
The meal with Enrico Basilica
Nanny's special recipes coming to light lol, to a very surprised Granny
Nobby and Count de Tritus cameo. Death cameos. Any cameos, actually.

As always, Discworld is a delightful vacation from more demanding reads. It never disappoints.
