I love the Witches books and have read them many a times over the years, but somehow I managed to miss this one! I prefer the books taking place in Lancre but this was a pretty good story with all you expect from a Pratchett book

phantom of the opera jokes are my number one jam. fill me with cheesy goodness and sharp remarks on masks and secrets and lies and music and magic.
It's not gutwrenching or sharp like some of the Discworlds (see: Night Watch), but it also doesn't feel as jokey as, say, Moving Pictures. It's a good, solid middle-of-the-mood read. Not a good indicator of the sort of stuff this series is capable of, but nevertheless an enjoyable romp in Ankh-Morpork.
Also, I have the audiobook's cadences memorized; I've listened to it so many times. I love this audiobook. Love love love love lovvveeee.

It is truly a miracle that Discworld exists and that we have so many books set in this world. The series is like a diamond necklace and this books must be one of the most prized gem. This book is great. The plot is well done, the characters are interesting and deep, and the themes are interesting to consider and well integrated into the book. Plus, if you love opera, or any theater for that sort, this book will strike a cord.
This is the first witches book that really wowed me. I think that Granny and Nanny make a great team in this book and reach depths that were not dredged as deep in their previous books. I think that part of this is the lack of Magrat from the book who I found to be fine, but not interesting. This book I found really set the two older witches up to be a dynamic duo that really bring the best from each other.
The book also does a great job delving into the themes and idea of Identity. Every character in the book either has an identity that they are running from, or a new one they are trying on, or have different identities at war with each other. The only character above this is really Granny, whose sure knowledge of who she is sets a firm foundation for the other characters to whirl and change around. But although Granny knows who she is, the reader through the book questions Granny's identity and is not clear who she as the book progresses, giving every character progress even if they remained unchanged.
The book is also really funny.
