I've heard a lot about this book but I still think that going in blind was the best way to experience Rachel Harrison's Black Sheep. What we have here is a well-crafted thriller with an original plot wrapped up with great writing and an engaging mystery.

Vesper leaves her entire life behind at eighteen after slowly moving away from her family, the cultlike life they lead, and the religious rules they worship. She's lost in the world, unsure of who she is and struggling to make a name for herself alone. So, when she receives an invitation to the wedding of her childhood best friend back in the community she swore she'd never return to, Vesper cannot avoid the temptation to get the answers she's been pining for.

Black Sheep is a fascinating read that straddles the line between horror and mystery with an incredibly fleshed-out main character to carry the story forward. Vesper is outwardly cynical, but inwardly she's vulnerable and lonely. She perfectly fits the epitome of 'Black Sheep' and is perhaps one of the best-written main characters that I've ever read. Rachel Harrison has created a refreshing novel, but Vesper is the one who kept me glued to the page. My advice, go into this blind for the full impact and prepare to be amazed.

What did I just listen to? That was a very dramatic play on the supposed religion. The book was pretty chill. There wasn’t a lot of action shall I say. There were some parts where I was like OK that went left quick. I mainly finished the book because I wanted to know what was going to happen. I thought that she would eventually just decide to join them, but then I realized duh the book is called the Black Sheep so obviously she’s meant to stand out and be different.

I was thrown for a loop when the dad actually turned out to be Lucifer. I’m not well-versed in Satanism, so I’m not sure if people who believe in this religion actually have a person that is the leader who believes they are Lucifer or not so that definitely shocked me but other than that the book was pretty chill..
