A tough one for me to review. While one part of me appreciates that Sienna offered historical and, where available, biographical context for each piece and then let readers draw our own connections across time, place, and theme, another part of me found the whole thing disjointed and so-whatish. If Sienna's only point in collecting these works was to say, "Yes, queer behaviors and identities in Judaism have existed for a really honkin' long time!" then mission accomplished. And for some people, that may be enough. I personally would've preferred more tying things together.

Many thanks to Masha for this book, which she gave me as a gift over a year ago, and I've only had a chance to actually look at it recently. My apologies, as this is a worthy contribution to the literature, some of the essays of which are a little on the imaginative side, but certainly fit within the context of providing a different point of view within the existing literature.
