was gonna give this a 3.75 but my opinion changed after reading the My Lesbian Experience With Loneliness hardcover bonus chapter.
In my Lesbian Experience review i briefly mention this book saying it made me sad to read about Kabi’s relapses/circling thought patterns and hoped that she would go back to her older work to read about what originally made her want to change in the first place. Now knowing that she DOES my reading experience with this book became much more hopeful and open minded.
I also had to check myself while reading this and recognize that mental health journeys come with many peaks and valleys and it’s not Kabi’s fault that she has more valleys. She tends to go back in time a lot to recall certain moments so i know this book - and her other works as well - aren’t necessarily in perfect chronological order.
It still does make me sad that her artwork has declined in quality over time but let’s be real she has SO much going on in her life i can’t blame her.
i’m happy she’s recovering from her alcoholism and i’m glad her parents are finally being more loving towards her. though she mentions that she can’t talk a lot about her mom which leads me to believe her mom & her came to some sort of agreement regarding privacy. however i’m very skeptical about that and i’m holding the belief that her moms only letting her write good things about her. she still seems to be caring about her parents opinions which still makes me sad but i know this is all a work in progress.
i love Kabi as always & while this book wasn’t as great imo as My Lesbian Experience, I’m still keen to learn more about her and follow her journey.

I love Nagata Kabi. I've been following her autobiographical manga since My Lesbian Experience With Loneliness and despite the dark life events she struggles with, her art and voice are so relatable and human that I can't help but cheer for her successes and hope that she recovers from her setbacks. Can't wait for the next installment
