a child reading this who is unfamiliar with an unreliable narrator could easily think this book was science fiction, and then be hit very hard at the end. I would be cautious giving it to a child who has had to deal closely with grief, especially traumatic grief.

Wasn't expecting the twist. Couldn't put it down once I got to the last quarter. Cried.

A beautiful and heartbreaking story about a girl experiencing loss and grief. It made me smile, and even cry. Not quite 5 stars only because the story before part two got confusing at times. I would recommend this to upper middle grade readers.
