I would have rated this higher if I ever came to understand what the hell the Grand Jeu was. Very good story, similar abrupt ending style to The Binding but for 400 pages I had no idea what the characters were actually DOING

It was a slog that put me into a reading slump. I tried to pick it back up since I read 70% but then saw the author was a TERF.

This is SO well-written & very clever (I did prefer The Binding though)

The only reason I didn't rate this a four was because of the ending and the reveal about Carfax, it was a bit disappointing to be honest!

I wasn't quite sure what I was reading for most of the way through. I kept thinking the nature of the grand jeu would be revealed and prove vital to the story line at some point, but it wasn't. The vagueness of this aspect was distracting. Some of the main characters ended up being unimportant or mere devices. Altogether, an interesting read but the book is underdeveloped.
