I went into this book expecting a light, summer read about a group of catty women but it ended up being SO MUCH MORE!
Sherri Griffin and her daughter move to Newburyport, MA - a beautiful coastal town bursting with quiet wealth and powerful cliques. The Griffins, coming from a traumatic past and looking for a fresh start, are taken aback by the cattiness of the town and the shape of their new lives. They quickly find themselves the talk of the town as they try to fit in before Katie has to start school in the fall.
Rebecca, former queen bee of the "mom squad," is still coping with the unexpected loss of her husband a year and a half ago. Her older daughter Alexa should be off to college next year, but has a secret, highly successful, YouTube channel and feels that her blog is her true calling. Rebecca's younger daughter, Morgan, starts hitting it off with Katie, forcing Rebecca and Sherri into the same orbit. Rebecca sees something in Sherri - something more authentic and less judgmental than the women with which she typically surrounds herself - and is instantly drawn to her. The two start an unlikely friendship, much to the chagrin of the other women in town.
The story is told by multiple narrators as they detail the events of that fateful summer. The entire novel is building to a climactic event that rocks the town.
I listened to the audio of this novel and really loved the narration. There are a lot of characters so that aspect was a bit hard to follow, but overall, this book was incredibly engaging and often quite funny. There was so much depth to the characters and even though their circumstances were so entirely different from most people, it was easy to feel empathy for them and to have a sense of kindred spirits. This book really surprised me in all the best ways. The big reveal wasn't even on my radar and I loved how the novel built up the suspense without it being over the top.
If you're looking for a fun book with some depth, I absolutely recommend this one!!

This book was pretty good, there wasn’t really anything wrong with it, the ending was just underwhelming and I was bummed about which character they chose to die.

Definitely sped through this one. Very reminiscent of Big Little Lies.
A combo between big Little lies and little fires everywhere
I’m not entirely sure how to rate this book. It held my attention but mostly because I just kept waiting for something of substance to happen. It had the vague feel of Big Little Lies but lacked the same oomph.
This was a good summer read. It moved quickly and kept my interest. The comparison to Lianne Moriarty is a good one.
The story is told from different points of view, one of which is 'The Squad'—the group of moms of middle school girls—that act as a 'greek chorus' by filling in details from there perspective. They aren't a likeable group of women. They are catty and cliquish—think 'Mean Girls' all grown up.
We know from the beginning that this is a book that does not end happily—somebody dies. We just don't know who or how. I enjoyed the journey. Though I wouldn't classify this book as a mystery or a suspense, there is some suspense along the way. One character is 'in hiding', on the run from a bad marriage. For the most part, the characters were likable and well-developed, though they often made questionable decisions.
The book is a great beach read, but will also appeal to book clubs. It would make a great selection for the summer when clubs are looking for a quick, fun read, but also something with discussion potential. Topics of discussion could include parent-teen relationship, grief recovery, abusive relationship, cliques, and more.

Wow! Give me suburban catty women with rich people drama, and I am soooold. I loved this! The summery, sea town vibes were immaculate, the gossip juicy.
“Two Truths and a Lie” was such a refreshing read with interesting and unique perspectives — I’ve never read a book with a POV from an entire group of people. So cool! And I loved the inclusion of modern elements like TikTok, YouTube, etc. One aspect of the novel I was not expecting, however, was just how sad the story would become… it was the kind of sadness that hits you in the gut and makes you want to throw up. But wow, what a read!
