I adored this book so much. If you're looking for a cosy, feel-good fantasy romance with low stakes then this is the book for you. I never knew I needed a cinnamon roll, ale-brewing orc with a pet teacup boar in my life until today, but here we are. Can't wait to read the next book!

Some parts of this were better than expected. Others were lacking. There is a bully romance, which I’m not personally a fan of, but the author uses this as an opportunity to bring up the lasting effects of intergenerational trauma as a result of systematic oppression and refugee status. Rather a deeper topic than I expected in a book like this, but I think it was well done. The setting was a mixed creature setting a la CM Nascosta’s Cambridge Creek. The relationship and miscommunication plot stuff was not as well done as I hoped. I still plan to read the next book in this series.
