Spice 🌶️🌶️🌶️
This was cute, and as promised is a nice cozy monster romance with spice.
I was really on board for about the first half or so as the characters were introduced and Thorak and Mariah’s relationship was explained for the reader. The first couple spicy scenes were excellent.
I really dislike a third act breakup and I get tired of a miscommunication trope that plays too long, and this did have both of those things. I knew this was going to be a HEA and pushed through, but I wish I didn’t have to.
The writing style is a mixed bag. There’s some parts that are very nicely written, then parts with repetitive word choice that can be a little glaring.
I’ve seen some criticisms of aspects of the story being difficult to believe e.g. why doesn’t Mariah have insurance to cover her pixie mite damage at the inn? Why is there a magical land where people and monsters carry cell phones? And I just gotta say girl, it’s not that deep. It’s a monster romance where the MMC is an orc with a big green peen, stop taking it so seriously. If you take it for face value of what it says it is, you’d enjoy it more.
Overall I did enjoy this low stakes romance with some nice monster smut (always down for that). Cute story, think Disney movie where the main characters actually do it instead of just having charged embraces. I’ll probably read the rest of the series.

An easy quick romance. Nothing groundbreaking, but I don’t regret reading it.
