There was nothing wrong with it—it was very cozy and low-stakes. It just wasn't memorable, and I forgot I was reading it until I saw a Booktuber include it in their wrap-up. I was at 90% and completely forgot I was reading it... whoops.

"The Orc and the Innkeeper" is a delightful and quick read. The story follows Mariah, a human innkeeper whose inn needs significant repairs, and Thorak, the town brewmaster who used to bully Mariah in high school. They reconnect when Mariah agrees to be Thorak's fake fiancée so that he can win over a prejudiced human investor, as long as he agrees to pay for the needed repairs. This fake engagement, monster romance, is delightful. Thorak is sweet and tries his best to make up for his past behavior, while Mariah is warm and forgiving. Their chemistry is fantastic, and the spicy scenes are hot and evenly paced. It unfortunately contains my least favorite trope, the 3rd act break up and of course it’s due to my last favorite reason: miscommunication. I would rate this sweet monster romance 3.5 out of 5.
