Eva and Shane have a long and complicated history, but after a failed marriage, one daughter and a successful writing career is Eva ready to forgive the boy now a man who broke her heart? Eva and Shane knew each other, once in high school, but that was  fifteen years ago. They had both come from hardship, which they recognized in each other. Eva, suffering from debilitating headaches and dealing with an irresponsible mother and Shane having no one at all, they formed a short lived codependency with each other. It was drug infused, sex and it only lasted seven days. Fast forward 15 years into the present, Eva is still battling headaches, Shane is still battling his demons, but as adults can they find their ways back to each other and make it work?

The writing in this second chance romance is exquisite. I love reading about writers, and this romance is about two writers, so that was perfect. This was a 5 star prediction and I'm so happy that it turned out to be exactly what I wanted. THE CHEMISTRY between these two leads....it was everything. TO ADD ONTO THAT: i loved the representation in here for invisible disabilities / chronic pain. the main character is a migraine sufferer and it impacts her day to day so much and i found that extremely relatable.

This is so much more than just a romance, it’s about family, trauma, damage, healing, about crippling disability, about conquering your fears and being your true self.
With such amazing characters as I’ve rarely read this tale takes you on a ride from the saddest most heartbreaking of youth stories where love would be impossible to survive to a cute mother and daughter relationship, finding the love that got away and how to go from there.
In the midst of it all there’s also space to address self-harm, abandonment, drug abuse, racism, colorism, and delve deep into living with a disability, family trauma and abandonment, but also family strength and unity, with a colourful splash of fashion, glamour, books and of course some steamy romance.
There’re a lot of fun parts too, mostly with the daughter (a deliciously witty character) and a lot of heart wrenching ones, and for the life of me I couldn’t put it down a second, I just had to know if the two traumatised writers could find happiness with each other after everything, pain, loss and time.
An epic romance that brought me to tears and laughs, and definitely now one of my favourite adult romances ever! Will definitely check more of this author and see if Colleen Hoover as found her match in my romance preferences as she did with this one.

4.25

As much as I wish it was this was definitely not a 5 star read for me personally
This book was deeply fucked up and the characters were super flawed but those weren’t even the reason why it wasn’t 5 ⭐️- I mean I fully was not prepared for all of that but that wasn’t even the issue really I don’t think. My issue mainly was because of all of that despite how much I loved the characters and the incredible character work that Tia Williams did, the main couple just seemed toxic and like they probably shouldn’t be together at least not till they got their shit together. That’s all even more true with Eva having a daughter and her being at least somewhat aware of their relationship. However, I do think this book is really really important in a lot of ways and was really really well done which is why I rated it as (relatively) highly as I did.
Not even when I finished it but as I got towards the end I really could not decide how I feel about this book. I think 4.25 is a pretty good descriptor but I still don’t fully know cause this book gave me such mixed feelings
