Ej ... dobre, bardzo dobre...
Trochę jak pokazowe danie z karaibskiej kuchni: bije w oczy kolorami składników, zaskakuje nos mieszanką nadzwyczajnych zapachów, szokuje podniebienie kombinacją niespotykanych smaków ... i może z początku szokuje czy wręcz odrzuca ... ale stopniowo wciąga. Wchłania i zaczyna fascynować.
No i ta wyobraźnia ... i pióro niczym filmowa kamera. To wręcz widać. co James opisuje!
Świetna, mocna książka. I dużo daje do myślenia...

This book is a bit of a mess stylistically and structurally, but is nevertheless an interesting read, not least for themes which appear in James' later work.
Don't let this book put you off reading his wonderful 'The Book of Night Women' or his astounding 'A Brief History of Seven Killings'.

Quintessential overambitious first novel. Lots of flash but not enough substance to hold up the drama of the story it's trying to tell. Interested to read his later stuff now.
