Such a good book! I felt like it was a little bit slow in the beginning, and the resolution at the end was wrapped up a little too quickly in my opinion. But this book is such a good depiction of systemic racism and how everyone around you really is involved. I loved the friendships developed among the black characters. The gaslighting and microaggressions were so aggravating to read, but only because it's so real. I highly recommend reading for everyone. And the authors note was really touching.

A slow start that felt a little basic but when it kicks in it really kicks in, loved it from then on!

I have had this book on my TBR for a while now & I’m so glad I picked it up! It was a slow start & I almost put it down but ended up reading 350 pages in 3 hours because I just couldn’t put it down! Such an important read that sheds light on eugenics & systemic racism. I enjoyed the main characters and there were a few I would have liked to have seen get their comeuppance.. overall a great read & I think I’m going to buy myself a copy!

I cannot say enough good things about this book. I would rate it higher if I could. This has risen to the top of my list of books I’ll recommend forever.

“I don’t straighten my hair because I hate it; I straighten it because everyone else hates it for me”

The first few 100-ish pages made me believe that I was gonna rate this book 3 stars… but that plot twist? When everything first started making sense to us readers?? THAT. FREAKING. REVEAL??? Instant gut drop. No words. I normally don’t rate YA books that high, but this is a MUST READ, and is a really strong 5⭐️ Read.

My only ick about this book is that it at a certain point talks about twitter, which is a thing I usually hate when books does, but it absolutely made sense in this story, so I cannot complain.

Devon and Chiamaka are awesome main characters. It was a joy, and a nail biting anxiety, to follow along and cheer them on as they go through an actual living hell. Again, Jesus Christ, the tension in this book is at Rosemarys Baby’s level. Insane.

As a white person, I have no clue what it must feel like to experience racism, but the inside the book and the Authors note at the end really made me do some self reflection and some thinking.  Ace Of Spades is definitely a read my fellow whites should check out.
