I love the Lady Hardcastle series so wanted to try this one but didn’t think I’d love it as much but really did. Biggest surprise was Ellie and Skins. Totally adorable! Loved the setting, banter of the band and the mystery.

3 stars. Despite having some interesting characters and a pretty decent puzzler, I just didn't care that much for this book. The Alphabet Gang is too confusing with the ridiculous naming conventions, WHY? The repeating dance practices were just boring or ridiculous, WHY? What the hell was with even having Inspector Lavender in the book??? He does nothing and does not behave like a police officer and his inclusion was completely inexplicable! There's some fairly annoying repetition, especially in discussing suspects and moving instruments around in the cart. I wish the author had not tried quite so much for humor, because a lot of it fell flat for me, but some of the other elements of the book were better. I am tending to think I will not read more in the series, or in the prior series that involves characters making cameos in this book.

I am a huge Lady Hardcastle and TE Kinsey fan, so I was obviously excited about this book. It a little longer for me to get into that the Lady H series, but it was good overall! And I would certainly recommend for any fellow Lady H fans.

Meh. Lots of words, little action. Very cosy.

T E Kinsey is such a fun writer, I can never get enough of his books! This one was fantastic, as expected. The combination of historical accuracy, silly jokes and a good murder with a plot twist gets me every time.
