Interesting psychology of the villain sniper and the teenager who is with him. Great twist towards the end of the book.

Pretty complicated story so I enjoyed that. All around pretty decent.

This is a great piece of work, how a book about a sniper who doesn't use a sniper rifle can be good is all up to a great author. I just love Bob Lee Swagger stories. Any Swagger book is a good book. I must thank the G.P. Putnam's sons and Edelweiss for giving me the opportunity to read this one. I strongly recommend all my followers to try Stephen Hunter.

When it comes to Bob Lee, nothing beats the original trilogy of course! But this one comes close, and was actually 4th in my Top 5 Bob Lee Swagger Books.

I had really struggled to read Hunter over the years. Hated 47th Samurai and it really turned me off it. The original trilogy was so good and one of my favourites ever that I continued to struggle through regardless.

So glad I did because I was rewarded with this great novel! If like me, Hunter fell out of favour with you, give this one a try!

Look: there are times when I am reading books from this series and I think, “What a tight, careful technothriller in the tradition of Day of the Jackal.” And there are times when I think, “These are books for men who masturbate to gun catalog copy.”

I should add that if you masturbate to gun catalog copy, do I have a book for you!

PS Second thriller I’ve read where Trumpy shows up in the distance, less as character than as landscape. I preferred the LeCarré.

Bob Lee Swagger books are better when Bob Lee is tha actual protagonist. That’s all.

This is the first Bob Lee Swagger for me. The prose was rich, the phrasing intricate, with a great plot and character development. I  have another one on my list  to read. I really enjoyed this one.

Not the most elegant of writers but a great story-teller once you get past all the sniper technical gobbledygook.
