More of a creature feature fantasy/ face to black slow building romance than a horror but I liked it more than I expected. I think because this was a short read the more fantastical elements worked for me and the archaic ones were described in such interesting ways that it really kept me intrigued. I just wanted a bit more background and more from the ending. I look forward to picking up future books from this author to see what else she has up her sleeve.

Loved the relationship between the main characters, it’s so hard to find sapphic monster romances sometimes! And it’s so rare to see a female monster be written to be so inhuman in appearance and behavior, it was honestly a breath of fresh air! The only thing that kept me from giving it a full 4 was I think the mystery aspect and some of the supporting characters could have been a bit more focused on, though I do think that it being such a fast paced read mostly makes up for that! Really loved the atmosphere of this one.

Perfect plot and execution for the length of a novella. The gothic creeping factor was really well done and added the horror of the Archaic One. My only complaint that takes it from 5 stars to 4 is that the rush to tie things up felt a bit jarring. There was something thrown in towards the last 10% of the book that felt out of place and then the book ended shortly after that.

A short, rich gothic with a sweet queer twist.
Dália has been raised on the lower floors of a secluded house where the only newcomers are Lady Anatema's brides. When the Keeper of the Keys who raised her is killed by Lady Anatema, she is promoted to that position--and tasked with solving a theft.
Dália is more compelled than horrified by the eldritch lady of the house--and finds that while the people around her are more complicated than she knew, so too are the possibilities before her. Surrounded by both decadence and danger, this is still her world, and Dália is protective of it all.
But is she destined to die like a bride or save her family?

I loved this sapphic monster romance, I devoured this novella. It is short at 111 pages, but I loved this one. Highly recommend! If you have arachnophobia, this one is probably not for you.
