When I was in elementary school, my Dad would read me stories from this book. He checked it out from the library so many times he eventually bought a used copy on Amazon which was, funny enough, a used library copy. Coming home from COVID, I was eager to read something to lift my spirits and this seemed like a harmless nostalgic way of doing just that. It was better than I remembered. The stories in here are far removed from the dreary dystopian fiction that my generation associates with science fiction. It praises the ingenuity and perseverance of the human spirit and celebrates the coming of new technologies! Even if some of the language is a bit dated, this is what was at the heart of original science fiction: Wonder. Amazement. While we must always remember science is a double edged sword, this book has helped me to reconnect with the joy of progress in a way that newer science fiction never did.
