Honestly. It was a good book. Kind of hard to read in a good way.

I'm having a hard time deciding a rating on this one (oscillating between 3, 3.5, and 4). On the one hand, the first half is rather slow (but it feels deliberately slow - because it really hones in on Claire's mental health and how not knowing and survivor's guilt can really hammer one's mental health) and. However, there's also a lot of care given to a plot which very directly involves and survivor's guilt/mental health.
The second half was rapidly paced and laid on twist after twist that were (primarily) tasteful and unexpected. I think I wanted a bit more in terms of consequences at the end, but... I would 100% read another Kara Thomas thriller.
CW: violence, blood, memory loss, substance abuse, suicidal thoughts/mentions,

my least favorite taboo: incest / incest-lite (in this case, the romantic pairing figures out that they're half-siblings; one knew early on and put distance between them without telling the other and the other finds out much later) is used as a last-minute and kind of unnecessary twistSpoiler

This was such an interesting thriller with so many plot twists omg. I knew something was off about Jesse but I didn’t expect that. Also the fact that he loved Kat so much that he lied for her.
This book was so good. It kept me guessing and the reveal at the end was so unexpected.
This book tells the story of three best friends that went out one weekend. But only one comes back. Claire is devastated, and of course she's blamed for what happened. She knows that she didn't do anything, and she's determined to find out what really happened to her friends.
I don't know what it was about this book, but it had me hooked from the beginning and I couldn't put it down.

Three friends skip the prom and head out camping... but not all three make it out of the woods. The mystery surrounding that weekend slowly unfurls as the story builds - I had a few theories and while I guessed correctly, the way it all came together made the book an engaging read. I wasn't too keen on the twist at the ending.. made me gag a little if I'm being honest.. but overall I enjoyed this book as a whole.
That ending was so fucking weird and random but I loved it so much LOL
Meh. A thriller with an unreliable narrator. It just DRAGGED for the first half...switched narrators and I got excited that maybe the author was going somewhere. But, nope. It was an okay story. But a bit forced and definitely too drawn out for the lack of complexity.
This is a YA mystery about 3 best friends. They spend the night at a lake house, with plans to go camping on Saturday. Sunday rolls around, and Claire is the only one found. She has no memory of anything that happened Saturday, or Sunday. Kat and Jesse are missing, and Claire is going to do what she can to figure it out.
This book was written really well. I’m always drawn to the premise of one survivor, and finding the clues out as we go. It hasn’t always been written good, but Kara does an excellent job. I like how the story is broken up into sections, and the way everything comes perfectly together. We are left with no questions and all the strings tie together.
Even though we don’t get a lot from Kat or Jesse throughout the story, the ending gives us the right amount of information to see character growth and change.
I really, really felt bad for Kat. I wish things could have turned out differently for her, and Jesse is just disgusting. Iykyk.
I didn’t really have a solid idea of what could have happened through the story honestly - When we got near the end of the book I was thinking of it going an entirely different way than it did but the ending was so much better than what I thought was going to happen.
The characters are written well. We see a lot of different kind of personalities being portrayed, but they all build and we see good character development with a lot of them.
I recommend this!
