The literal ending was kind of... Meh. But most of the book kept me guessing and unsure of how it was going to turnout throughout the listen. Wasn't bad.
WOW, what a disappointment... I was so looking forward to this book. I love books with amnesia. Something happened and our MC has to figure out what happened. But sadly... not much happens in 50%. No found memories. Nothing exciting. No scary things. I was so bored that I even skipped to the end to see if something would happen. Hint... not really. The later part was just even worse. Given what Kat did. Given that plan. Given everything. I get what she wanted, but it was just the shittiest thing ever.
And again, NOTHING HAPPENED. NOTHING. Nothing noteworthy. Nothing scary. Nothing exciting. I was so hoping for murder. For something scary. But I will spoil it now. Nothing. Nothing happens. Such a disappointment after the fantastic and pretty scary The Cheerleaders.
Maybe I will write a longer review after my vacation. For now.. this will do.

Really fantastic read, but I have to take a star off for the incest twist. Just make the horrible grandma racist, it’s just another box to tick off and would make me, a brown Latina with a sibling of the opposite sex, a lot more comfortable. Jesse trying to say “we didn’t grow up together”? Please. But I guess that’s just the nature of tropes in the thriller/mystery genre.
I appreciate the fact that Claire never remembered what happened and the investigation that unfolded throughout the novel. Opposed to Thomas’s “The Cheerleaders,” it felt as though the characters were more active and did more than have conversations with a bunch of people. I especially loved the “Gone Girl” twist.
Overall, really solid, and kept me hooked the whole time. The only critique I have—asides from the personal “Did they have to include incest here?”—is the lack of reflection. I would have loved a deep dive into Claire’s mind at the end, but all we were left with were fragmented thoughts. This reflected her mental state as a whole (dismissive, jaded, etc.) but still, I would have enjoyed it.
