This is the second romance I've read this month where the FMC has a doughnut obsession. 🤔

Unfortunately, I am not the audience for this book. I probably shouldn't have read it, but here we are!

The premise of the story is fun and cute, it reminded me of RomComs I liked growing up. Gemma magically happens to erase her 4-year relationship with her ex from her life but also happens to erase her BFF that she is totally actually in love with from her life too. And then scares the shit out of him and he kinda thinks she is a crazy stalker but don't worry, he gets over it in 2 chapters.

It was very weird how the prose decided to tell me what the people around Gemma are like rather than have the characters actually do or say anything to at least prove this correct. It felt like I didn't really know any of the characters outside of Frank the spider. At lease Frank knew who he was.

A disappointment, but I also can admit a lot of people will like this book more than me.

The story was set up to be a good friends to lovers (my favorite plot), but eventually fell flat. Pieces were missing and the characters weren’t lovable.

I highly enjoyed this. Some of Gemma’s self-doubt got a little repetitive, and the author uses “talented” a bit too much, but I don’t think I could want anything more from this

Gemma as a character was very funny and charming. I really loved the romance, it gave me the heart achies and butterflies, and the smut was pretty good. I also liked Gemma’s personal development and her relationship with her sister

Nothing groundbreaking or particularly special about this one. I found the FMC to be your classic “quirky” twenty-something going through a quarter life crisis. Add a little magical twist and boom, you have your plot.
I felt very frustrated with Gemma obliviousness to “other” Dax and Kiersten going through struggles. The issues were staring her right in the face and it felt off to me that she needed to have a “big confrontation” with them.
If you want to read a textbook example of a “booktok” novel, this is it

EDIT: I read the acknowledgement where the author cites her
husband's bedroom skills
as inspiration for the smut scenes... there's a thing called boundaries babes.

When Gemma’s 4 year long relationship suddenly ends, a margarita fueled “spell” cast by Gemma, her sister, her aunt, and her best friend Daxon misfires and sends Gemma to an alternate timeline where Dax has no memory of her. Her new life is better in some ways- she’s a successful small business owner rather than a tired buyer for a big chain store- and worse in others, namely that she doesn’t have Dax in her corner. Aunt Vivi advises her they have a month until they can try to reverse the effects. In that time, Gemma cultivates a relationship with Dax that leaves her wondering if they should’ve been together all along.

I like Aunt Vivi’s witchy vibes and the little glimpse at her weird book club. Gemma wasn’t my ideal MC. Her choice felt pretty obvious to me. It was interesting that the misguided spell
didn’t alter the flow of time. Gemma came into her new life missing a lot of knowledge and spent a month there, the returned to her time a month later and had to put the pieces together again.
I feel like that’s not often the case with timeline swap stories. I also wish the resolution was a little longer.

There is some spice in the book but it wasn’t my favorite. It felt weirdly clinical and then I felt even worse when I saw the author calling out her husband in the acknowledgments for his inspiring genitalia. The steam leading up to the spice was better and I felt the tension building up between them. I wish it had been left at that or that the author had a better editor for those scenes.

A bit of a slow start but then picked up when Gemma - who swapped timelines with alt Gemma - started settling in
A timeline swap point of view might have been fun but I enjoyed Gemma and Dax and their  one sided friends to lovers relationship
